Histoire de la Royal Air Force

Le musée Trenchard est situé sur le site de la Royal Air Force Halton dans le Buckinghamshire, en Angleterre. Il a été ouvert en 1999 et est nommé d'après le vicomte Trenchard, considéré comme le père de la Royal Air Force et premier chef d'état-major de l'armée de l'air. Le musée se concentre sur l'histoire de la RAF, en particulier sur la formation des apprentis pilotes qui se déroulait à Halton.

Expositions interactives au musée

Avions et modèles : Le musée abrite deux avions complets, de nombreux modèles et une série de moteurs d'avion qui documentent le développement technologique et le design des aéronefs.

Outils et équipements : Des outils et équipements utilisés par les apprentis pendant leur formation sont exposés, ainsi que des exemples de leur travail et de leurs pièces d'examen.

Centre du patrimoine James McCudden

Uniformes et souvenirs : La collection comprend des uniformes, des photographies et d'autres objets rappelant la vie et la formation des apprentis de l'armée de l'air.

James McCudden Flight Heritage Center : Ce centre à l'intérieur du musée rend hommage au pilote de chasse britannique James McCudden et propose des informations sur les avions, les instruments de vol et contient un simulateur de vol fonctionnel utilisé pour la formation des pilotes.

Caractéristiques spéciales :

Apprentis de l'armée de l'air polonaise : Une section spéciale du musée rend hommage aux jeunes polonais formés à Halton pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale et qui ont contribué de manière significative à la RAF.

Expositions interactives : Les visiteurs ont la possibilité de s'asseoir dans des cockpits d'avion et de s'entraîner sur des simulateurs de vol pour acquérir une compréhension pratique de la formation et des défis de l'aviation.

You need to book at least 3 days in advance. Follow instructions! I was here 1966-1969 when No. 1 School of Technical Training was here. The visit brought back many memories and filled in some of the history that I was not aware of. I still use some of the skills I learned here nearly 60 years look later.

Brilliant well worth a visit very informative and interesting. Children really enjoyed it to the gentlemen showing us round and explaining the exhibits where very knowledgeable. Really enjoyed our visit and will definitely be back .

Not usually open to the public except on special days, such as the free Halton House open day at RAF Halton in Wendover. Busses are provided to take you into the base. Because it is incredably popular, it is very crowded, which detracts slightly from the visit. Great for geeks who are into aircraft engines, etc. Not suitable for young children. Takes about 3 hours. Very good canteen, though rather busy. Recommended.

The museum is chocked full with information and artifacts illustrating the legacy of RAF Engineering that Lord Trenchard created when he fought for Halton to be established. If you like the RAF, Engineering, or Military aircraft hardware you should arrange a visit. You wont be disappointed. Entrance is free, but you do need to arrange your visit before hand. Hurry there may only be a few years left.

Run by volunteers, this although small, is an amazing little museum dedicated to RAF Halton and all the apprentices that have pasted though the gates. We'll worth a visit.

Excellent museum illustrating RAF Halton's historic role delivering vital training in aircraft engineering, dentistry and nursing. Unique 'hands on' displays of aviation, engineering and weapons plus the life of aircraft apprentices through the years.

Lovely little museum, run by a very knowledgeable gentleman. We visited here with our teenage son. Francis showed us round and shared lots of fascinating facts about the history of the RAF and RAF Halton. You can get up close to everything and also handle certain objects. There is also a separate building with old and new flight simulators which my son could try out. We were given a personal tour of that part by another very helpful and informative gentleman. I would definitely recommend this museum. You have to email in advance to book your visit and then you are met and shown around in your group. A fascinating place. Well worth a visit.
